Jarvis and Bubba: Best Friends

In every school, there is always a big bad bully. Some old dude who just ain’t happy with his life, or nothing else and he has to pick on somebody littler to make himself look big, or feel better. Our school bully is Bubba. He picks on everybody, including the little kids and he is mean and nobody likes him. Not until recently that is.

Bubba would steal kids lunch money, even though he didn’t need it at all. He would put his fingers in people’s lunch plate and mock them, saying stuff like “What’cha gonna do about it punk!” Or whatever else he could come up with. The teachers tried but couldn’t really do anything. But he messed up when he started picking on Jarvis.

Now everybody kind of likes Jarvis; Jarvis is a real science nerd and always talks about space travel, rockets and math and is a little weird but he is really nice too. But that makes him ok in my book; he is super smart and is always helping people with homework, that kind of thing. Jarvis is a real thin kid, and Bubba is fat and about a foot taller than Jarvis.

Now Bubba had been picking on Jarvis for the whole school year. One day he made the mistake of knocking Jarvis’ school books he was carrying out of his hand on purpose, in front of everybody. Jarvis immediately tried to punch Bubba, but Bubba beat him up. He gave him a black eye, a swollen lip and a hurt arm. Jarvis was so mad, he just kept swinging and the coaches had to pull the two of them apart.

Sitting in the office, some other kids heard what Jarvis said to Bubba, when Bubba threatened him. Both boys got suspension but Jarvis simply said, “Now you are going to have to fight me every single time you see me.” Bubba laughed, and the principal gave Bubba three days suspension for fighting, and even though Jarvis didn’t start it, he got the same. That was not fair, but that is what the principal did with his “No Tolerance” policy.

They both came back to school, and Bubba was walking down the hall, when out of nowhere comes Jarvis; I mean this was as SOON as school started in the morning, right in front of everybody trying to get to class. Whap! Jarvis hit Bubba hard and this time he broke Bubba’s nose. Blood and fists were going everywhe. Bubba of course beat Jarvis up again, because Jarvis would not quit. Again they were sent to the office for fighting, and again they were both immediately expelled for three days.

The next day Jarvis’ mother had to go to town, and since Jarvis was expelled, he was with her at the grocery store in town. Who appeared right in front of Jarvis but Bubba! There he was, and as soon as Jarvis saw Bubba, he hit him again right in that same broken nose and messed it up more. Then he jumped on his back this time and would not let go. It took Bubba’s mama calling the police to get him to let go. They handcuffed Jarvis AND Bubba until they could sort it all out.

Jarvis didn’t go to jail, after his mother explained what was happening, and everybody got to go home. They didn’t get to go to school until the following Monday. Bubba got in the hallway and was looking all around for Jarvis, but this time he was trying to avoid Jarvis I think. He was slinking around, sneaking from locker to locker and looked kind of like an idiot for doing it.

Bubba got to his classroom and there stood Jarvis in the door, waiting for him. Bubba froze, and when Jarvis went to swing, Bubba begged him, “Jarvis! Hey man stop! Don’t hit me this time! I am getting tired of having to whip your butt, let’s call this off. C’mon man, I don’t want to be expelled no more, what do you say?!”

Jarvis stepped back a little, thought about it and said, “Don’t you ever mess with me again Bubba, or I swear to God I will do my best to beat you into oblivion!” Jarvis then snorted and walked off. What’s so neat about it is that about two weeks later, Bubba and Jarvis was eating lunch in the cafeteria together, and they turned out to be best friends!

I guess sometimes you have to whomp somebody a few times before they learn to respect you. Bubba got a lot nicer after that, and I think Jarvis stopped him from picking on everybody so much. Maybe they both just needed a friend. Now ain’t that something?!”
