Whiny Babies

I am pretty young, and ain’t never been many places, but the one thing that really gets under my skin, and sticks in my craw is a whiny baby. I just can’t stand a feller, anybody for that matter, that whines and cries and complains all the time. Mamaw said “that is what kept the children of Israel wandering in the wilderness for 40 years!” Whiny baby complaining and griping! 40 whole years is a long time to be lost, and not know where you are at, even in the Bible days.

Uncle Muddy says that some folks would “gripe and moan if they was hung with a new rope.” He always says stuff like that; you know stuff that makes you scratch your head at what he is thinking. But yeah, some folks just ain’t never satisfied with anything, and they want you to read their mind, like you s’posed to know what they are thinking, like you have some magical power or something.

I remember one time Mamaw was helping run the food pantry at church, handing out stuff to “them that is less fortunate and in despair” like Mamaw says. She told me a story one time how she brought a food box to this woman with five kids, and no daddy and she was so grateful for that food box, all she did was cry and hug Mamaw and the ladies that brought it to her. She was thankful for sure.

She then said there was this one day they brought a food box to another young mother, with one kid. And that woman complained later to one of the deacons at the church, that her box did not have what she wanted. She actually brought it back to the church and tried to get her a custom box. That woman had some nerve!

So what if you don’t have air conditioning, or a fancy car or a big expensive steak to eat that day? You in a house ain’t you? You got some kind of ride, or you can walk. Maybe all you have is chicken necks and rice. You got something in your belly and a way to cook it, even if its on a homemade grill in the yard. Be thankful for it, because somebody somewhere in the world is praying for that little blessing you are whining about.

Yessir, makes me hot around the collar for sure. One more thing, it’s hard to be hateful, when you are grateful. So eat them beans and potatoes in peace, and tomorrow will take care of itself!
