Barber Shop Gossip

This is what I heard last week down at the barbershop, while I was getting my hair cut. Four old men were sitting around talking about people, which I ain’t supposed to listen to, but y’all know I had to. See, these old men were playing dominoes at the barber shop, while gossiping. Here is what I heard, but y’all probably best go on and not listen to gossip (I am even gossping telling this);

Man 1: Say did y’all hear about Preacher’s daughter?
Man 2: Oh she’s a looker, sweet gal, what’s going on with her?
Man 1: She got her a new beau?
Man 3: Really?
Man 1: Yeah big Texas city feller oil man out of Houston. Has to be an oilfield man.
Man 2: Probably a roughneck the way it sounds right?
Man 1: Yeah got him a big fine four door truck, and boots and ten-gallon hat.
Man 2: Maybe he ain’t from Texas, might be a country western boy from Nashville?
Man 1: Nah, I saw them plates, Texas plates for shore.
Man 4: She sure is a nice gal, so pretty and smart. Always helping out everybody and such.
Man 3: You know she was on drugs a-walking the streets for awhile.
Man 1: Well she did kind of have a wild gleam in her eyes, wild child.
Man 3: Well maybe that Texas feller will git it out of her, being good to her.
Man 2: You know what they say, you can take a pig out of the mud, but that pig always wanting to lay back in it.
Man 1: True words.
Barber: How did YOU know she was on drugs on the street?
Man 1: Sakes alive Homer, you’d have to be deaf not to hear all that mess!
Barber: Yeah I reckon.

I guess boys ain’t supposed to hear all that junk, but we do on Saturday haircut day. Folks should probably be more careful what they run their mouth about. You never know who might be listening.
